The Far Side of the Ocean

"If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the ocean, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast." - Psalm 139:9-10

I just started a six meal a day plan where you spread your meals out all day, and make them smaller in calories. I just had an assessment (free!) at my gym and the personal trainer gave me the outline on how to do it. I've only been doing it for a week or so, but have dropped 3-4 pounds (depending on the day I weigh :) It helps me because I never feel hungry and I can still go out and eat healthy. This along with 2-4 times a week in my gym's pool working out and I hope to be on the right track.

Lisa - you need to invest some money in Billy Blanks Taebo and cut out sweets and drink water. I guarantee you will lose weight. Eric lost 30 lbs and I dropped two dress sizes.

For losing, Weight Watchers seems to work best for me. I don't go to the meetings or anything, I just bought the stuff on ebay and do it by myself. For maintaining, I can count calories pretty haphazardly and still do ok, but I don't seem lose anything that way.

This worked for the rest of my family, but not for me.
Take a picture of yourself in a bikini and place it right inside the refrigerator door. When you open it to get some food, you will see the pic and the door will automatically shut.

A lot of eating plans will result in lost weight; the thing that sets the good ones apart is keeping it off. The trick is to pick a plan you can LIVE with, even after you get to goal, one that doesn't feel like a "diet". (That's why I picked South Beach--I abhor measuring and counting, and SB focuses more on what you eat than on how much. Also, the food is YUMMY, and after the first two weeks, you're no longer battling cravings.) I've been able to keep the thirty pounds I lost off for over a year and counting, and the way I eat is second nature now.

Also, I am a big fan of daily weighing. As long as you're not one of those scale-obsessed people who are cast into a tailspin of depression by the normal fluctuations of body weight, it's a good way to prevent slip-sliding back up the scale. :)

I'll have to defer to these other folks on the exercise advice--that's an area in which I'm still struggling for consistency!

I think the main thing for weight loss is you got to get moving. I weighed 150 when i moved to boston. i then got a job at the mall where i was on my feet all day running around like my head was cut off and ate chickfila almost every day. some diet, i tell you! but the weight fell off and now some 7 years later i'm still around 125 without really trying. oh yeah, i guess when i married don it changed my eating habits: no more macn'cheese or ricearoni for dinner. i was mad as hell at first, but now i love the taste of fresh veggies steamed.
i try to exercise several times a week for at least 20 mins, but don't always do it. i usually love the way i feel afterwards, all that energy, but it can be tough to make it to the gym, whathaveyou. in that case, just turn on your favorite music and jam out in your living room until you're out of breath. that should be just enough of a little change to inspire more changes all around you. good luck!

so glad to have found your blog. come visit mine sometime, but leave your red ink at home. ;-)
